Project Description:
The proponent has submitted a registration to construct a 151-metre rubblemound breakwater east of an existing wharf on the north side of Carbonear Bay. The purpose of the breakwater is to dissipate wave energy in the bay before it reaches the existing wharf and infrastructure at the DFO-SCH Carbonear site. The breakwater will have a footprint of 6500 square metres and be constructed of imported core material, filter stone and armour stone. The construction of the breakwater could commence as early as April 1, 2016 and is expected to take 4.5 to 5 months to complete.
- November 19, 2015 – The undertaking was registered.
- December 25, 2015 – Deadline for public comments.
- January 3, 2015 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
- January 7, 2016 – The Minister announced that the project is released.
