Project Description:
The proponent proposes a quarry extension for an area of approximately 140 hectares adjacent to their existing operations in the White Hills area on the Port au Port Peninsula. The quarry extension will include a haul road approximately 2 to 3 kilometres long, settling ponds, office building and maintenance facility. The quarry extension is planned to extend existing operations for approximately 25 years based on an estimated annual production of two million tonnes of high-grade calcium limestone and one million tonnes of dolomite limestone. The quarry extension is planned to be initiated in 2017.
- May 11, 2016 – The undertaking was registered.
- June 16, 2016 – Deadline for public comments.
- June 25, 2016 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
- July 20, 2016 – The Minister’s Decision is due (extended).
- August 30, 2016 – The Minister announced that the project is released from further assessment.
- November 30, 2018 – The Minister approved the Groundwater Monitoring Plan.
- March 28, 2019 – The Environmental Protection Plan (EPP) was submitted.
- April 9, 2019 – The Minister has determined the EPP was satisfactory.
