Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to develop and operate a 10-hectare sand and gravel quarry approximately 2 kilometres east of the Town of Badger.  The quarry will be located adjacent to two existing quarries and supply sand, gravel and rock for use in asphalt, and also provide Class A and B aggregate for road work and other construction projects in the Central Newfoundland region.  Clearing and construction of the quarry is expected to take approximately five weeks and the quarry is proposed to operate yearly for a period of eight weeks following receipt of all approvals.

• May 11, 2016 – The undertaking was registered.
• June 16, 2016 – Deadline for public comments.
• June 25, 2016 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
• July 25, 2016 – The Minister’s Decision is due (extended).
• August 30, 2016 – The Minister announced that the project is released from further assessment.
