Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a proposal for a five-year Sustainable Forest Management Plan for Zone 7, encompassing Forest Management Districts 9 and 16.  Zone 7 extends from Deer Lake in the west to Cat Arm in the north and includes all of the Baie Verte Peninsula. The plan describes timber harvesting operations, construction of access roads and silviculture activities. Crown land accounts for 46% of the area and Corner Brook Pulp and Paper timber rights account for 54% of land holdings. The undertaking is necessary to maintain and or expand the existing commercial industry and allow for domestic harvesting for home heating. The plan covers the period from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2021.

• November 17, 2016 – The undertaking was registered.
• December 23, 2016 – Deadline for public comments.
• January 1, 2017 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• January 6, 2017 – Deadline for public comments (extended).
• January 31, 2017 – The Minister’s decision is due (extended).
• February 10, 2017 – The Minister announced that the project is released.
