Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a proposal for a five hectare shale rock quarry southwest of Mortier Big Pond on the Burin Peninsula.  The area is within the municipal planning boundaries of the Town of Burin.  Access to the site will be via the existing Greenhill Access Road.  The construction phase will include the removal of scrub, topsoil and overburden; operational phase will include the excavation of rock materials; and reclamation and closure will include the conditions of the quarry permit issued by the Department of Natural Resources.  The project is scheduled to commence by April 2017.

• March 8, 2017 – The undertaking was registered.
• April 20, 2017 – Deadline for public comments.
• April 22, 2017 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
• May 1, 2017 – Project Released
