Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent intends to construct and operate a range complex in Stephenville, located approximately 2 kilometeres northwest of Route 460 and approximately 5 kilometres north of the Port au Port Highway. The area of the proposed range will be approximately one square kilometre and will consist of a 600-metre rifle range shooting field, a 50-metre pistol range shooting field, a security fence with access gate, parking areas and buildings. Access to the site will be through improvements to an existing road.

• August 5, 2019 – The undertaking was registered.
• September 11, 2019 – Deadline for public comments.
• September 19, 2019 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• February 25, 2020 – An Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required.
• April 24, 2020 – EPR Guidelines due to be issued.
• May 6, 2020 – Environmental Assessment Committee appointed.
• August 14, 2020 – Environmental Preview Report Guidelines issued.
• December 3, 2021 – The Minister announced the project is withdrawn.
