Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent  is proposing to expand its current quarry operations and develop a five-hectare sand and gravel quarry near Southwest Brook, located off of Route 340 and approximately 2.5 kilometres south of the Town of Lewisporte.  An existing quarry access road will be used to access the proposed site. The development will include vegetation clearing, grubbing and stockpiling of material on site.  Operations will include pit run removal, screening, stockpiling and transport of sand, gravel and Class A/B aggregates. The quarry will operate from May to December annually.

• June 8, 2020 – The undertaking was registered.
• July 16, 2020 – Deadline for public comments.
• July 23, 2020 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• September 24, 2020 – Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required.
• September 24, 2020 – Environmental Assessment Committee is appointed.
• November 23, 2020 – EPR Guidelines are due to be issued.
• January 22, 2021- EPR guidelines issued.
