Colliers Golf Course – Mr. Francis W. Cole

Proponent: Mr. Francis W. Cole

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

  • June 1, 2000: The project was registered. The proponent plans to construct an 18 hole golf course in Colliers, Conception Bay. The proposed course will cover approximately 80 hectares in area and will include an irrigation system, driving range, registration office, proshop and storage warehouses.
  • August 25, 2000: The Minister of Environment and Labour announced that the registration for the Colliers 18 Hole Golf Course does not contain sufficient detail to determine the significance of the environmental effects of the undertaking and therefore an environmental preview report was required. The environmental preview report must address outstanding concerns to the existing environment, including productive forest, wildlife and resource uses, as well as additional design information and alternatives.
  • October 16, 2000: The Minister announced that he had appointed an environmental assessment committee with representatives from interested government agencies.
  • November 8, 2000: The minister announced that he had issued to the proponent guidelines for preparation of the environmental preview report.
  • August 26, 2003: The three year validity period of the Minister’s determination to require an E.P.R. expired. If the proponent wishes to proceed with the project it must be registered again under the provisions of the Environmental Protection Act.
