Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proposed site for the drag racing venue is the Avondale Access Road near the Trans Canada Highway at the existing Motor Sports Complex. The project will consist of access road and parking lot; operation building (tower, office and canteen); drag racing and oval racing track; and on site portable chemical toilets. The facility will operate on weekends from May until November, weather permitting.
- April 09, 2001 – The project was registered.
- May 29, 2001 – The Minister announced that an environmental preview report was required to address outstanding deficiencies such as noise generation, sources and containment of pollution, and the traditional recreational use of the area.
- June 15, 2001 – The Minister announced that an assessment committee was appointed.
- July 13, 2001 – The Minister announced that Guidelines for the environmental preview report have been issued.
- April 9, 2002 – The proponent submitted the EPR to the Minister.
- June 19, 2002 – The Minister announced conditional release of the undertaking.
