Milltown Slipway Extension (Phase III)

Proponent: Town of Milltown-Head of Bay D’Espoir

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

The proponent plans to extend an existing slipway in the Town of Milltown. The existing concrete slipway does not extend deep enough into the water and limits launching and retrieval of boats at high tide. The extension would allow for boat launch and retrieval at any tidal condition. The proponent also plans to install approximately 128 metres of cribbing along the shoreline to prevent further erosion. The existing concrete slipway is approximately 5 metres wide and 15 metres long. The slipway is flanked on either side by two wooden wharves approximately 4 metres wide and 15 metres long. At low tide, the water depth at the end of the slipway is 0.6 metres deep. An L-shaped extension will be added to each flank of the existing wharves. The extension will be 7 metres wide at its widest point.
