Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:
The proponent proposes the use of updatedpractice laser guided munitions at the 5 Wing Practice Target Area (PTA)near Minipi Lake. An additional safety template (approximately 2000 squarekilometres) is proposed beyond the existing PTA to provide for publicsafety in the case of a malfunction. Control of the site will betransferred to the Federal Government from the Province. The newer versionof practice laser guided-bombs are more accurate, heavier and havelarger wing surfaces. Because they are also launched from a higheraltitude, they have the capability to glide considerably father than thecurrent designs.

• December 11, 2001 – The undertaking was registered.
• March 06, 2002 – The Minister announced that the undertaking was released from environmental assessment.
