Foxtrap Storage Facility for Natural Occurring Radioactive Material

Proponent: Island Waste Management

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent plans to invest $10,000 by constructing a dedicated steel containment shed on a 40 metre square area on the Northeast side of their fenced property at Foxtrap Incinerator Road. The site is located in the City of St. John’s in an area zoned Industrial General (IG) and is being proposed in order to service their existing clients in the offshore oil industry.

The proposed facility will be used to store NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material) until it can be shipped from the Province for cleaning, decontamination, or disposal (maximum holding time for product will be less than one year). Construction is planned to begin at the completion of the Environmental Assessment review.
