Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent in conjunction with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Small Crafts and Harbours Branch, proposes to construct a rubble mound breakwater structure approximately 135 metres long into Seldom Harbour, Fogo Island. The breakwater will be 40 metres wide on the ocean floor with a crest width of 5 metres and be constructed to an elevation of 5 metres high. Construction will involve placement of stones over the indented footprint which will then be covered with armour stone.

• December 3, 2003 – The undertaking was registered.
• January 8 2004 – Public comments are due.
• January 16, 2004 – The Minister released the project from further environmental assessment.
