Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct a 44.1 kilometre 66kV transmission line to supply power to the Duck Pond Copper-Zinc Mine. The line will originate at the Buchans terminal station and run adjacent to the existing transmission line for approximately 21 kilometres. A new right of way will be created at this point and run generally south to the Duck Pond Mine for approximately 23 kilometres. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in late spring/early summer of this year.

• March 10, 2005 – The undertaking was registered.
• April 14, 2005 – Public comments are due.
• April 24, 2005 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• May 6, 2005 – The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
