Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent proposes the development of a gravel airstrip at Portland Creek, Great Northern Peninsula . The proposed airstrip will be approximately 457 metres long by 24 metres wide. No land clearing will be necessary for the airstrip and there is an existing road to the area. However, an extension to the road may be required to provide access to a new hanger to be constructed 20 metres by 27 metres. Work is estimated to begin in June 2006 and be completed by November 30, 2006.

• May 1, 2006 – The undertaking was registered.
• June 5, 2006 – Public comments are due.
• June 15, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• August 7, 2006 – The Minister announced the project has been released from further environmental assessment review.
