Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management Districts 4,5,6 & 8 which are combined to form Planning Zone 3 as mandated by the new planning framework legislated by the Newfoundland Forest Service. Planning Zone 3 extends from Terra Nova National Park in the east, to the Bay d’Espoir Highway in the west and north to cover all of the Bay of Exploits and Bonavista North. The Five Year Plan describes: past activities in the Districts; the proposed allocation of wood supply and forest harvesting; silviculture; forest road construction; forest protection, environmental protection measures; and, monitoring and research activities from 2007 up to 2011.

• November 6, 2006 – The undertaking was registered.
• December 14, 2006 – Public comments are due.
• November 22, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• December 28, 2006 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment subject to conditions.
