Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proposal includes the construction and operation of a scrap metal/solid waste storage facility located adjacent to the Trans Labrador Highway (TLH) near the communities of Wabush and LabradorCity. The two acre fenced site will be located 11.5 kilometres from the TLH turnoff and 100 metres from the highway. A 2400 ft2 building will be constructed, which will contain an oily water separator. Solid waste, car wrecks, fridges, stoves etc., will be stored on site. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in June, 2007.

• April 19, 2007 – The undertaking was registered.
• May 30, 2007 – Public comments are due.
• June 13, 2007 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment.
