Project Description:

The proposal is to include timber harvesting, primary resource road construction, silviculture and other forest management activities as required. The proposed harvest area is within Forest Management Districts 14 and 15, located on the west and southwest coasts of the Island, from Burgeo and Port aux Basques in the south to the southern boundary of Gros Morne National Park in the north. The plan describes a total scheduled harvest of 1,684,000 cubic metres of timber and construction of 77 kilometers of primary forest access roads. Also proposed are silviculture treatments on a total of 6250 hectares: planting and gap planting including site preparation where required (1950 hectares) and pre-commercial thinning (4100 hectares). Vegetation control using herbicides may be employed on 200 hectares.
