Project Description:

The Department of Natural Resources is seeking to amend the Five-year Forest Operating Plan in Crown District 2 (2007-2011) which covers the Bonavista Peninsula operating area. The amendment concerns the proposed harvest of approximately 147.5 hectares of timber (16,650 cubic metres) over three operating areas in the District. The largest operating area (#215) to be affected is located approximately 7 kilometres west of the Town of Clarenville, off Dark Hole Brook resource road proposes the harvesting of 92 hectares of timber (9,130 cubic metres). A second operating area (#223) is located approximately 6 kilometres west of the Town of Bloomfield for the harvesting of 2.5 hectares of timber (180 cubic metres). A third operating area (#236) is proposed for the harvesting of 53 hectares of timber (3,340 cubic metres) northwest of Nut Cove Pond. The amendment has been submitted to access old and decadent balsam fir stands before they pass the point of commercial viability.
