Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proposal is for a new gravel/sand quarry site totaling 9.75 hectares, located approximately seven kilometres east from the Town of Badger. Site access will be via an existing access road (approximately 0.25 kilometres) to be upgraded and extended as required. Sand and gravel will be used to produce asphalt aggregate, concrete aggregate, and Class A and Class B materials for projects in the Badger, Grand Falls-Windsor and Bishop’s Falls areas. Access road upgrades/extensions and pit operations are scheduled to commence in May /June subject to approval.

• March 3, 2010 – The undertaking was registered.
• April 7, 2010 – Public comments are due.
• April 17, 2010 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• June 8, 2011 – The Minister announced that the project is released.
