Bay St. George Land-Based Seismic Exploration Program

Proponent: Vulcan Minerals Inc.

Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proposal involves 140 kilometres of land-based seismic data acquisition in the BaySt. George area. The project will proceed in three phases: drilling; line cutting; andrecording. The project involves the cutting of approximately 114 kilometres of new handcuttrails (roughly 2.75 metres in width). Every 100 metres along these lines, a 10 metredeep hole will be formed using drills and small (2 kilogram) dynamite charges will beburied. Seismic data will then be acquired by generating sound waves at the surface andrecording the echoes that return. Cutting of the trails will take approximately six weeksand drilling is expected to take approximately one month. The drilling and line cuttingphases will likely overlap by 3 to 4 weeks. Recording is also estimated to takeapproximately one month, depending on weather conditions. The project is scheduled tocommence in July 2010, subject to approval.
