Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a Five-Year Operating Plan for Forest Management District 21. This district is approximately 1.9 million hectares of boreal forest, situated on the south coast of Labrador. The area is bounded to the north by Hawke River, to the west by the Paradise and St. Paul’s Rivers and the Quebec-Newfoundland and Labrador border, to the east and south by the Labrador coast. The proposed project will mainly involve harvesting, silviculture and road construction. Approximately 243,000 cubic metres of timber is schedule to be harvested in District 21 over the next five years. The project is proposing to construct 14 kilometres of primary access road as part of the operating plan.
