Proponent: Town of Bishop’s Falls
Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proponent has submitted a proposal to install and operate an Engineered Wetland Sewage Treatment Facility as the new Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) in Bishop’s Falls, in Central Newfoundland. The WWTF will provide a collection system from the Town’s existing six outfalls that are currently being discharged directly into the Exploits River and will redirect them to the wetland treatment facility, which will be constructed at the east end of the Town of Bishop’s Falls in the location of the former race track. Access to the proposed WWTF site will be via an existing roadway (Sunset Drive) which will be re-aligned to provide direct access to the site. The transmission/collection line will generally follow the old railway bed, which will be reinstated over the pipework with walking/biking trails established for community use. The anticipated construction schedule is from April 2013 to March 2015, with the majority of the work expected to be completed prior to November 2014.
