Project Description:

The proponent proposes to implement an aerial insecticide spray program using the product Neemix 4.5 (azadirachtin)to selected forest area (mainly silviculturally treated stands) to address the infestation of balsam fir sawfly. Neemix is a naturally occurring botanical insecticide which is extracted from the Neem tree. The spray program will focus on areas forecast to receive moderate and severe defoliation in 2002 from the balsam fir sawfly. The registration document submitted provides background information on the current infestations, control options, information on the product Neemix 4.5, details of the actual spray program and the schedule. The locations of the proposed control program are from the south of Corner Brook to the Grand Lake area, and to the north of Milltown -Head of Bay d’Espoir area.

  • June 11, 2002 – The Minister released the undertaking from further environmental assessment.
