A trade qualifier is a person who meets the jurisdictional requirements to write a certification examination for a trade.
Requirements include:
- on-the-job work experience of at least one and a half (1.5) times of an apprenticeship term for a designated trade;
- documentation of work skills that have been verified by a certified journeyperson in the trade; and
- documented verification of time and hours.
A trade qualifier is not required to complete any in-school training, although the option to attend training may be available where the need for theoretical upgrading is identified.
Trade qualifiers who successfully complete the certification examination receive a Certificate of Qualification.
Please note: There are some trades that will require a practical exam to be completed before the theoretical certification exam is given, (i.e. cook, welder, hairstylist, and machinist).
