Red Seal and Provincial Certification Exam – Rewrites

Application Process

Eligibility Criteria

If a candidate receives a grade of less than 70% on a certification exam, they may be eligible for a rewrite a minimum of 30 calendar days after the original exam date.  It is recommended that a certification exam rewrite be completed within 90 days if possible. Rewrite opportunities are scheduled monthly in each regional apprenticeship office.

How To Apply

  • A Certification Exam Registration Form must be submitted.
  • The form lists the locations and dates of monthly re-writes.
  • Email the form to certificationexams@gov.nl.ca or fax to 709-729-5878.
  • Pay the required fee (certification exam only). Payment must be made online here.
  • The apprentice will be notified via email of the details on the scheduled exam rewrite.
  • A breakdown of certification exam results by section is provided for all failed attempts.

Deadline to apply

The certification exam registration form must be submitted a minimum of 3 weeks prior to the selected rewrite date. If unable to attend a scheduled rewrite, notice must be sent to certificationexams@gov.nl.ca at least 3 business days prior to the scheduled exam date.

Decision-Making Process

  1. The Certification Exam Coordinator assesses the certification exam registration form, verifies eligibility to rewrite the exam, the availability of space at the chosen exam location and date, and confirms that the required fee has been paid.
  2.  A confirmation email will be sent to the candidate at least one week before the scheduled rewrite date.
