Youth Apprenticeship Summer Program (YASP)

The Youth Apprenticeship Summer Program (YASP) is a 7-week wage subsidy program, pairing eligible employers with local students completing grade 10 or grade 11 who are interested in starting their apprenticeship in skilled trades.

STUDENTS

During the summer, students will receive 7 weeks of practical on-the-job training directly from skilled professionals in their chosen trade. Students will gain real experience on job sites and completing projects. This hands-on experience is recognized as legitimate apprenticeship hours, allowing them to start accumulating valuable hours towards their future apprenticeship certification.

JOB POSTINGS

Job positions for 2024 will be posted on the YASP website as of March 2024. Experience is not a prerequisite. The goal of the program is to encourage youth to try the trades, any student that is interested should apply. Successful applicants will be notified in May with next steps and details of employer match. Positions will start as of June 2024.

ELIGIBLE EMPLOYERS

Registered and insured in Newfoundland and Labrador as an employer.
Have a certified journeyperson in that trade on staff who can supervise and sign off on hours.
Can commit to 7 weeks of employment between June 24th – August 9th, 2024, offering up to 35 hours per week.
Agree to allow youth apprentice to participate in 3 days of training sessions throughout the duration of the program.
