Atlantic Apprenticeship Curriculum Standard (AACS)

An Atlantic apprenticeship curriculum standard is a trade-specific training standard developed through the Atlantic Apprenticeship Harmonization Project. An Atlantic trade advisory committee, consisting of industry and training representatives from Atlantic Canada, works to ensure the curriculum represents the essential tasks, knowledge and skills of their respective province. The AACS is a common standard shared by all Atlantic provinces. It enhances the mobility of apprentices and skilled workers in Atlantic Canada, and includes:

  • occupation title;
  • implementation date;
  • alignment with the RSOS;
  • unit content; and
  • unit designation by level.

Private Plans of Training

A private plan of training is an individualized plan developed for a specific employer which allows employees to gain work experience and training credit towards certification in a trade. Training is delivered in the workplace by the employer and participating employees are registered as apprentices in the trade.
