Project Description:

The proposed undertaking is phase one of a two-phased open pit iron ore mining project located in Western Labrador, approximately 10 kilometres northwest of Schefferville , Quebec . The site was previously mined and consists of 10 open pit deposits. Ore will be trucked to a plant for crushing, screening and washing to produce lump ore and sinter fine ores. From the plant the ore will be transported via rail to a marshalling yard in Schefferville and then sent via rail to Sept-Îles , Quebec , for shipment to customers. To the extent possible, the project will use existing infrastructure or renovate/re-build infrastructure abandoned or decommissioned by other mining companies. Operating eight months per year, the production rate for phase one will be 5,700 tonnes/day in years one and three and approximately 11,300 tonnes/day in year two.

• June 19, 2008 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• August 13, 2008 – The Minister requires an Environmental Impact Statement.
• August 25, 2008 – Environmental Assessment Committee Appointed.
• October 29, 2008 – Draft Guidelines posted for public review.
• December 12, 2008 – Final guidelines issued to Proponent.
• January 5, 2011 – The undertaking was released.
• February 1, 2012 – Contingency Plan Acceptable
