Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a proposal to construct an approximately 480 metre long earthen berm along the southeastern edge of the Health Sciences Centre buildings, between the buildings and Leary’s Brook. The purpose of the berm is to protect the Health Sciences Centre buildings and infrastructure from flooding during significant precipitation events. The project is anticipated to commence in late May 2017.

  • April 12, 2017 – The undertaking was registered.
  • May 18, 2017 – Deadline for public comments.
  • May 27, 2017 – The Minister’s Decision is due.
  • June 29, 2017 – The Minister announced that an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) is required.
  • June 30, 2017 – Environmental Assessment Committee appointed.
  • August 3, 2017 – EPR Guidelines issued by the Minister.
  • March 22, 2018 – EPR submitted for review.
  • April 26, 2018 – Deadline for public comments on the EPR.
  • May 6, 2018 – The Minister’s decision on the EPR is due.
  • May 31, 2018 – The Minister’s decision on the EPR is due (extended).
  • June 15, 2018 – Revised EPR Guidelines issued by the Minister.
  • March 14, 2019 – Revised EPR Submitted.
  • April 18, 2019 – Deadline for public comments on the Revised EPR.
  • April 28, 2019 – The Minister’s decision on the Revised EPR is due.
  • November 6, 2019 – The undertaking is released.
