Sprinkler Fitters install, maintain, inspect and test fire protection systems. They work on fire protection systems such as wet, dry, water mist, preaction, foam, deluge, standpipe, clean agent, carbon dioxide, hybrid, antifreeze, and chemical fire suppression system. Their duties include reading engineered drawings, installing hangers and clamps to support the piping system, preparing and joining pipe, installing cross-connection control, and maintaining, inspecting and testing fire protection systems.

Sprinkler Fitters work on industrial, institutional, commercial and residential sites such as trade contractors, maintenance departments of factories, and servicing companies, and may be self-employed. They specialize in installation, maintenance, testing or inspection. They work primarily indoors, often in unheated heated spaces, and install outdoor systems both above and below ground. Installation takes place through all phases of construction, in the mid-to later stages of new construction, or in situations where renovation of structures or upgrading is undertaken.
