Communicable Disease Control

The division of Communicable Disease Control facilitates the prevention, intervention and timely investigation and control of infectious diseases in Newfoundland and Labrador. Surveillance activities identify trends and patterns, risk factors, and emerging disease events; this information is communicated to public health partners to facilitate an appropriate response and to continually evaluate public health programs. This division also develops vaccine program policy and protocols for those diseases that are vaccine preventable. The infection prevention and control program provides guidance to ensure optimum prevention methods in health care facilities and in the community.
