Long Term Care Services

Long Term Care Facilities and Personal Care Homes

Long Term Care Services are delivered in both long term care facilities and in some hospital/health centres with combined long term and acute care services across Newfoundland and Labrador. (368 KB)   All facilities provide 24 hour nursing care plus varying degrees of medical, rehabilitative, social work, pastoral care, dietetic, pharmaceutical, palliative care, respite and recreation programs. Some facilities maintain specialized programs and units for groups with special needs (i.e. Alzheimer disease).

Admission to a long term care bed is based on an assessment conducted by staff of the regional health authorities. A financial assessment is also completed to determine if and how much the individual must pay.
