The Pharmaceutical Services Division is responsible for operating the Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program (NLPDP) on behalf of the department. Policy direction, administration and monitoring of the Newfoundland and Labrador Interchangeable Drug Products Formulary and the Tamper Resistant Prescription Drug Pad Program are also the responsibility of this division. Departmental representation on various Provincial, Atlantic, and National pharmaceutical-related initiatives is also provided.

The Pharmaceutical Services Division addresses inquiries regarding:

  • policies of the NLPDP;
  • criteria for Special Authorization Medications;
  • status of requests for special authorization;
  • covered benefit medications and supplies;
  • Select Needs Plan; and;
  • Newfoundland and Labrador Interchangeable Drug Products Formulary.

There are two other offices responsible for specific aspects of the Newfoundland and Labrador Prescription Drug Program:

The NLPDP Assessment Office in Stephenville is responsible for eligibility assessments for the Access and Assurance Plans and maintenance of beneficiary information within the NLPDP computer system.

The Assessment Office addresses inquiries regarding:

  • the eligibility for a specific cardholder;
  • Out-of-province drug coverage for beneficiaries of the program;
  • the 65Plus Plan;
  • the 65Plus Plan for Landed Immigrant Seniors;
  • Emergency coverage under the Foundation Plan; and,
  • Coverage status of beneficiaries of the Access and Assurance Plans.

The NLPDP Claims Processing Office addresses inquiries regarding:

  • questions or difficulties associated with claims adjudication, including payment reconciliation and inability to connect to real-time system, etc.; and,
  • Beneficiary reimbursement of prescription receipts.
