Overview
The Office of the Provincial Medical Director (OPMD) supports paramedicine providers with clinical practice guidelines, clinical policy, quality assurance and continued quality improvement initiatives, and real-time 24/7 support with a practice group of prehospital and transport medicine physicians. The OPMD also advises stakeholders on issues regarding paramedicine practice and the intersection of emergency health and paramedicine services with other healthcare teams, providers, and systems of care.
OBTAINING MEDICAL AUTHORIZATION
OPMD medical authorization is a requirement to practice in the provincial integrated road and air ambulance system. To obtain medical authorization, paramedicine providers:
- Hold a valid licence from Newfoundland and Labrador Paramedicine Regulation (NLPR).
- Apply to OPMD for medical authorization.
- Be employed by NL Health Services (NLHS) and on duty providing patient care within the capacity of the integrated road and air ambulance program.
