Active For Life Older Adult Program

Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador, in partnership with Memorial University’s School of Human Kinetics and Recreation, developed a physical activity program designed to reduce the risk of falls in older adults.

Physical activity is important for older adults to maintain health and quality of life. Regular physical activity offsets some of the negative changes that typically occur with aging, such as chronic diseases, muscle weakness and mobility issues. Active for Life focuses on physical activity as a way to maintain health and improve quality of life by increasing mobility, developing muscle strength, improving balance, and reducing falls risk among older adults as well as developing friendships. This program consists of a warm-up, strengthening exercises, balance exercises, obstacle course that will test many different skills and abilities and a cool down.

Healthy School Planner

The Healthy School Planner is a free tool schools across Canada can use to assess the health of their school and build a plan for improvements. The Healthy School Planner helps schools evaluate current conditions, validate untapped resources within the community, organize increased support for change, lead the decision-making process to determine action steps, visualize outcomes through shared success stories, and evaluate progress over time.

Using the tool is easier and faster than ever. You can choose the number of modules you want to complete, and stop and save at each point along the way.

After completion, schools will receive tailored feedback and a list of resources that will help them take action in areas selected for improvement. From there, schools can decide on priorities for action and develop improvement initiatives based on current capacity.

For more information on the Healthy School Planner please contact the School Health Promotion Liaison Consultant for your region.

KidSport NL

KidSport™ is a children’s charitable program, was initially established in 1993 by Sport BC. The conception of KidSportTM  was due to recognition that barriers including the rising costs for sport registration fees and equipment were negatively affecting children’s participation in sport, especially kids from challenging backgrounds. KidSportTM believes in the fundamental values and benefits that sport provides.

KidSportTM Canada was formed in 2005 and assists the Provincial/Territorial Chapters in raising funds as well as helping the organization build valuable public awareness.
