As part of the on-going investigation into a cyber attack that impacted health care IT systems in Newfoundland and Labrador, it has been determined that some personal information (PI) and personal health information (PHI) was obtained from our systems.

The appropriate authorities have been contacted, including the Newfoundland and Labrador Information and Privacy Commissioner. The RCMP have been notified and are continuing to investigate the incident. We are cooperating fully with the authorities.

For patients, the information is comprised of basic information that is typically logged or used for a patient visit, such as name, address, health care number (MCP), who you are visiting, reason for visit, your doctor, phone number, birth date, email address for notifications, in-patient/out-patient, your maiden name, and marital status.

For current and former employees, the information includes name, address, contact information, and Social Insurance Number. There is no evidence that banking information of employees was involved.

If you notice any unusual activity in any accounts or your account statements, please contact the appropriate service provider, such as your bank, as soon as possible.

We are currently looking into options for the provision of credit monitoring and identity protection services to monitor credit with regular reports and access to credit scores which notify users of unexpected changes. We will have more information on this in the days ahead.

We deeply regret that this incident occurred and are taking steps to protect the privacy of our employees, patients, and other members of our community. We will continue to provide updated information as it become available.
