Provincial wait time information from April to September of 2010-2011 shows that benchmark performance in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be strong, as patients the majority of cases are receiving timely access to care. Provincial data results for these first two quarters combined show:
- More than 9 out of 10 (94%) newly diagnosed cancer patients accessed radiation treatment within the 28 day benchmark;
- All or 100% of patients underwent cardiac bypass surgery within the 182 day benchmark;
- Eight out of 10 (80%) patients underwent cataract removal on their first eye within the benchmark of 112 days;
- Three quarters (75%) of hip replacements were completed within the recommended benchmark of 182 days;
- Close to seven out of 10 (67%) of knee replacements were performed in 182 days, while regional data shows that 9 out of 10 patients accessed knee replacement surgery within the benchmark in three of the health regions. In the fourth region demand is significantly higher, consequently patients experience much longer wait times; and
- Close to eight out of 10 (78%) of patients underwent hip fracture surgery within the benchmark of 48 hours, and 9 out of 10 cases were completed within 60 hours.
