Provincial wait time information from April to September of 2011-2012 shows that benchmark performance in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be strong and the majority of patients are receiving timely access to care.

Provincial data results for these first two quarters combined show that:

• Almost all (96%) newly diagnosed cancer patients commenced radiation treatment within the 28 day benchmark;
• All or 100% of bypass surgeries were performed within the 182 days;
• Nearly three quarters (71%) of cataract cases on the first eye were performed within 112 days;
• Eight out of 10 (82%) of hip replacements were completed within the recommended benchmark of 182 days;
• Six out of 10 (62%) of knee replacements were performed within 182 days. However, regional data shows that 9 out of 10 patients accessed knee replacementsurgery within 182 days in three of the health regions. In the fourth region demand is significantly higher, consequently patients experience much longer wait times; and,
• Nine out of 10 (91%) of patients underwent hip fracture surgery within the benchmark of 48 hours.
