Atlantic Apprenticeship Harmonization Project (AAHP)

The Atlantic Apprenticeship Harmonization Project was created to align the rules, processes and standards for apprenticeship in the four Atlantic provinces.  The project is overseen by an Atlantic Apprenticeship Council (AAC), comprised of the Directors of Apprenticeship from each of the provinces.

Phase 1  (2014-17) –  Harmonization of 10 trades  (completed)

  5. Carpenter
  6. Instrumentation & Control Technician
  7. Construction Electrician
  8. Industrial Electrician
  9. Plumber
  10. Steamfitter/Pipefitter

Phase 2  (2018-19) –  Harmonization of 6 trades   (completed)

  1. Automotive Service Technician
  2. Industrial Mechanic (Millwright)
  3. Sprinkler Fitter
  4. Truck and Transport Mechanic
  5. Heavy Duty Equipment Technician
  6. Boilermaker

Phase 3  (2019-23) –  Harmonization of 7 trades   (ongoing)

  1. Sheet Metal Worker
  2. Insulator (Heat and Frost)
  3. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic
  4. Powerline Technician
  5. Auto Body and Collision Technician
  6. Machinist
  7. Oil Heat System Technician

Trades were chosen based on criteria such as trade mobility, demand/volume, related trades that can be harmonized at the same time, the age of curriculum standards, and industry endorsement.

Atlantic Trade Advisory Committees, consisting of industry and training representatives from each participating province, are active in supporting the work of the AAHP.
