In response to requests from skilled trades stakeholders, apprenticeship training is now available in an online format for some trades. The overall goal is to remove barriers and maximize access to training for all participants.
Five trades have online training available:
- Automotive Service Technician (Academy Canada)
- Plumber (College of the North Atlantic)
- Construction Electrician (College of the North Atlantic)
- Welder (College of the North Atlantic)
- Carpenter (College of the North Atlantic)
Online training is an option for apprentices in addition to the in-class training option. Online learning is highly interactive, including regular interaction with instructors and classmates as well as the use of simulation software.
Benefits of online training for apprentices:
- can continue working while completing required training;
- do not have to spend weeks away from home/family for training; and
- accessible from anywhere with an internet connection.
